It eliminates administrative burden by enabling healthcare staff to perform complex, multi-step scheduling operations through simple conversational commands — no manual data entry, no EHR navigation, no training required.
Built natively on Workato Agent Studio, the Genie connects directly to athenahealth (athenaOne EHR) via the REST API v1, supporting the full appointment lifecycle from slot creation through patient check-out. It includes 35 discrete, auditable skills organized across 10 functional categories: Reference Data, Appointment Type Management, Slot Management, Patient Management, Appointment Booking, Check-In & Visit Flow, Third-Party Integration, Status Updates, Provider & Department, and Reports & Analytics.
Each skill is a standalone Workato recipe that can be invoked individually or chained into multi-step workflows by the Genie. Staff can say 'Find open slots for Dr. Patel next Tuesday' or 'Create a new patient and book a wellness visit' — and the Genie executes all required API calls automatically.
The solution is HIPAA-aware: PHI flows exclusively through athenahealth's compliant API infrastructure, no PHI is stored in Workato memory or recipes, and all credentials are managed via OAuth 2.0. Deployment takes 30–60 minutes for a technical user with existing athenahealth API credentials.
