Purpose. Eligibility Check Genie removes the manual, front-desk work of confirming whether a patient’s insurance coverage is active before a visit. Instead of logging into payer portals, calling payer lines, or re-keying member details from insurance cards, staff ask the Genie (or hand it a spreadsheet, a card image, or an email) and receive a structured eligibility result in seconds. 

Target users. Front-desk and patient-access staff, billing and revenue-cycle teams, practice administrators, and operations leaders at physician groups, ambulatory clinics, and RCM service providers. 

Key capabilities (four skills). (1) Single-patient verification from chat: the Genie collects the seven required inputs and calls the Optum eligibility API. 

(2) Batch verification from a Google Sheet: every row is validated, verified, and written back with status, HTTP code, API response, error message, and timestamp, plus a batch summary. 

(3) Insurance card from Google Drive: Workato IDP extracts member name, date of birth, and member ID from the card image and the Genie verifies from those values. 

(4) Insurance card received by Gmail: the Genie retrieves the attachment, extracts and verifies, and emails the result back to the requester. 

Key benefits. Verification moves from minutes of manual effort to seconds of automated work and can be run in batch before patients arrive; no manual re-keying of card data; rows with missing or invalid data are skipped with a reason rather than dropped; exceptions are flagged for human review; every check leaves an audit trail.
